Salsa's Sea Otter Surprise
By: Karl Rosengarth

To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Salsa Cycles unveiled a limited edition El Mariachi 29" singlespeed frame, fork and stem at the 2006 Sea Otter classic on Thursday, April 6th. Only 100 of the special matching-painted frames, CroMoto grande forks and CroMoto S.U.L. stems will be produced (Salsa calls the custom root-beer-ish paint color "Fiesta").

The singlespeed specific frame has vertical dropouts, disc brake tabs (no canti mounts) and eccentric bottom bracket. Frame weight is quoted at 5.1 lbs (with EBB) and the fork tips the scales at 2.4 lbs, uncut. Both the frame's main triangle and the fork blades are made from OX Platinum steel. Suggested retails price for the frame, fork and stem package is $1199. Frame sizes: small, medium, large and extra-large. Salsa plans to release a production El Mariachi, this version with an added derailleur hanger, in July.
