Cole House (616 Fabrications) and Ruth Sherman (Corning/NoTubes/Swan Cycles) won the Stan’s NoTubes Foundry Cycles Iron Cross bike race in Michaux State Forest, Pennsylvania, on Sunday. In its 11th year, Iron Cross delivered an epic 68-mile day of endurance cyclocross racing over gravel roads, rocky singletrack, ATV trails and pavement.┬áRacers competed in perfect trail and weather conditions, with sunny skies and comfortable temperatures all day.

Wigwam offers not one, but three opportunities to showcase your run-up abilities over a very short and demanding stretch of course. ironcross11-12 ironcross11-13 ironcross11-14 ironcross11-15 Though distanced by Oberman and Farabaugh on the Hogshead ascent, an impressive chase across the ridge top leading into the final stretch of singletrack gave eventual winner House a chance to make the most of his mountain bike. Oberman began the fireworks that shredded the final four with a massive attack on the long gravel climb of Hogshead Road. 2012 Iron Cross champ Farabaugh missed a late turn as he was closing the gap on House leaving his fans to wonder what might have been. Toone seemed to hang just off the back of the leaders all day long - never quite connecting yet never blowing up. His pacing led to a strong 2nd place finish on the day. ironcross11-20 Local Shippensburg University professor Goates just missed out on a top 3 finish for coming home 4th for perhaps his best Iron Cross yet. ironcross11-22 SS champ Rapp made it two UltraCX series victories in a row following on his success at Three Peaks USA the weekend prior. Defending UltraCX National Championship Series title holder Stephanie Swan finished third in the women's race. ironcross11-25 ironcross11-26 ironcross11-27 ironcross11-28 Mike Simonson rode in strong support of teammate House contributing to the 616 Fabrications rider's victory. Simonson's strong riding netted him a 5th place finish. Glowczynski took home the win in the men's 40+ field. Petro finished third in 40+. Charles Clarkson (HUP United) is always a contender at Iron Cross and finished 7th in this edition. Back to back weeks with flat tires interrupting his flow had Pflug needing a mistake free race at the final stop in the UltraCX series at the Sub-9 Gravel Grovel in Indiana on November 30.
